These are their observations The most time consuming part the process changing the paper rolls the corrugator. Situation Three rolls kraft paper must loaded onto the corrugators the beginning each job and sometimes new rolls must loaded when one runs out the end job usually one more the paper rolls must switched out for different weight paper. For each loading process forklift operator must drive the storage area retrieve the correct roll paper transport back the corrugators and load This process typically takes minutes For each swap process the paper roll must removed from the corrugator transported back the storage area and then new roll must selected transported and loaded swap process typically takes minutes Because the extreme weight and size the paper rolls transporting and loading removing the paper rolls dangerous and time consuming job for safety reasons almost all other work must stop the area while paper transported loaded unloaded. Significance Because swapping paper rolls happens multiple times during manufacturing shift the process moving the paper rolls causes lot down time among the workers the manufacturing floor. Remarks Recommendations Using the new ECM software program specifications for all jobs should entered into the computer they are received The ECM program will then batch all jobs that use the same rolls paper together This will save significant time and money fewer paper roll swaps will needed. Significant amounts cardboard are wasted the cutting process Situation When box blanks are cut the cutter excess cardboard that does not fit the job pattern discarded. Significance Lakota Cardboard paying for paper and glue and time create that cardboard simply throwing out increases our recycle fees and wastes money and resources. Remarks Recommendations The ECM program can batch together jobs that use the same cardboard specifications and create efficient cutting pattern that will meet the needs multiple jobs Using the ECM software should result less waste cardboard the cutting stage. Lakota Cardboard currently uses the following procedure typical shift the cardboard manufacturing plant Each job work order repeats this process. The shift manager schedules jobs ranking them according project deadline size with those jobs that need completed first those that are larger being processed first. Appropriate rolls kraft paper for the job are moved via forklift from storage and loaded onto the corrugator. The corrugator set the fluting specified the order and the corrugated medium steamed crimped and glued the liner papers. The finished cardboard moves down the conveyor belt the cutting machine. The cutting machine manually set for the job and box blanks are cut.
